The following classes will be offered after school from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans unless otherwise noted. If you would like to register for a class or classes, please call Wendy Meunier at 527-6558 or send an e-mail to wmeunier@bfasta.net.
Note:
1. Registrations will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
2. Workshops scheduled in the Math and Business Labs are limited to 20 participants.
3. Re-certification credit will be available to BFA & NWTC faculty through the BFA Local Standards Board.

Crisis Prevention Institute Training is a safe, non-harmful behavior management system designed to help human service workers provide for the best possible care and welfare of assaultive, disruptive or out-of-control persons even during the violent moment. The program has several primary objectives:
1. Training staff with techniques effective in approaching and reducing the tension of an agitated person.
2. Focusing on the alternatives if a person loses control and becomes violent.
3. Instructing staff in techniques to control their own anxieties during interventions and maintain the best possible professional attitude.
4. Providing nonverbal, paraverbal, verbal and physical intervention skills to allow the staff to maintain the best possible care and welfare, as well as safety and security, for all involved even during the most violent moments.

Thurs Sept 21 Media Center Resources Peter Jones Library
The library subscribes to several databases to help with doing research for both students and professionals. These databases each provide different resources and all have remote access. Come and learn searching techniques and features of each database.
Tues Sept 26 The Role of the Advisor & How to make your advisory more effective Jeff Rouleau and Kaki Hutchinson TBA
This workshop will give the participant a clear view of the role of the advisor and how it differs from the role of a teacher. Creative ideas, originated from our faculty, will be shared to increase your advisory’s effectiveness. This will be an interactive workshop.

A number of weight-loss strategies not only fail to produce long-term results, but also can cause serious health problems. Be a health-literate consumer ad learn how to recognize the potential health risks associated with some weight-loss programs. This course will teach you proper weight management, which involves developing healthy eating habits and being physically active throughout life.

This course is designed for teachers with little or no experience using spreadsheets. Time will be spent learning the basic functions of how a spreadsheet works and what they can be used for.
Tues Oct 17 Spreadsheets II Tom McDonald Math Lab
This course is designed for teachers with some experience using Spreadsheets. Time will be spent on using formulas in spreadsheets, creating graphs, and designing a grading program.
Tues Oct 24 Showing Presentations Jody Laferriere W-302
You’ve created these terrific presentations. Now how do you show them? Learn to connect a multimedia projector and speakers to present your creations. We will also cover using a SmartBoard to make those presentations extra special.
Thurs Oct 26 Digital Cameras/Scanners Jody Laferriere Math Lab
This course is designed for teachers who have little or no experience with digital cameras or scanners. Time will be spent learning how to use both and how to integrate the pictures generated into documents or PowerPoint presentations.

Learn how to manipulate those pictures you’ve created with your digital camera or scanner. Students will be taught to understand editing tools, crop, enhance, print and 3-mail pictures, and/or save them to a web or document. This workshop picks up where the Digital Cameras/Scanners workshop left off.

This course is designed for teachers with experience in using Word and who are interested in learning how to enhance word documents by adding pictures, WordArt and drawings.
