Principles of
Engineering
Course 700
1 Trimester
1/2 CreditPrinciples of Engineering is an introductory course for Technical Education. It will explore the relationship among Math, Science, and Technology through hands-on based lab activities. The student will have an opportunity to work independently and in small groups while working to solve real world problems. Areas of study will be communications, design, electronics, woods, drafting, and problem solving. Such activities within these groups will include: Hi-Tech Dozer, CO2 dragsters. Magnetic levitation, burglar alarms, oblique and isometric drawings, and computer skills such as Internet research web page design and digital photography.
Transportation
Car Care and Power
Course 702
1 Trimester
1/2 credit
Transportation is a trimester course using technology systems to move people, goods and raw materials efficiently. Each student will learn basic car care maintenance. Changing oil, spark plugs, mounting and tire rotation, checking the cooling system and brakes, and maintaining the overall appearance of the automobile. Student will overhaul a three and one half horse power four cycle engine. Student will have the opportunity to learn basic welding skills. In addition the student will build and launch successfully a rocket. Student will use the internet to complete a research paper on an alternative fuel source or transportation mode.
Manufacturing and Construction:
Woodworking and Building Trades
Course 703
1 Trimester
1/2 CreditManufacturing and construction - -a technical system using the raw and recycled wood composites to make consumer goods while learning basic woodworking skill, layout, and cost calculations . The student will learn machine and hand tools basics such as countersinking, table saw operations, lathe operations, and the drill press. Construction techniques and finishing procedures will also be examined. You will have one required project and will have a choice of a final project.
Communications:
Printing and Drafting
Course 704
1 Trimester
1/2 credit
Printing and Drafting is a trimester course using technology systems and resources to transmit information. In the first half, students will design and print such items as: business cards, graduations announcements, stationery, booklets and business forms. Student will work with two computer graphics programs. In the second half the student will learn the basics of drafting. Student will learn the use of drafting tools, the alphabet of lines and correcting dimensioning format. The student will learn to visualize three dimensional objects. Students will be exposed to Isometric drawings and sectional drawing.
***This course is recommended for all advanced technology courses and vocational courses.
Communications:
Electricity and Electronics
Course 705
1 Trimester
1/2 creditStudents will study the very basics of electricity and electronics. Such areas as The Nature of Matter, electrical terms, AC and DC circuitry, magnetism, series and parallel circuits, house wiring, and electronic theory. Students will develop skill using power supplies and electrical meters. An opportunity to build an electronic project will be given. Experimentation is a very large part of this course. House wiring will be introduced.
Course 731, 732, 733
1, 2, or 3 Trimesters
1/2 credit per trimesterIf you would like to build your own gun cabinet, coffee table, or waterbed, perhaps this course is for you. Students will learn the fundamentals of furniture construction with emphasis upon joinery, design and finishing. Student will learn about wood identification, careers in woodworking, cabinet making, schools and colleges, and leisure time skills for use in later life.
Advanced Drawing
1 and 2
Course 741, 742
1/2 credit/trimester
In Advanced Drafting students will strengthen their ability to visualize three dimensions; will develop and strengthen their technical imagination; will practice thinking precisely; will learn to read and write the language of the industries, and will gain experience in making working drawing according to modern practices. Student will solve technical problems through the use of drafting tools and techniques; will learn to prepare technical drawings that adequately communicate the design idea; and will learn to read charts and obtain data from technical references. Student will have hands-on exposure to CAD. ***Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in Communications 704. Must have passed or are presently taking Geometry. In lieu of the prerequisites listed, must have teacher permission.
Computer Assisted
Drafting
Independent StudyCourse 745, 746
1/2 credit/ trimesterThis course is designed to give students the opportunity to explore the use of a Computer Assisted Drafting system; CAD. The student will investigate how to use a computer to make technical drawings. Much research through varied resources will be required in order to perform some of the tasks asked. Required readings as well as textbooks and manuals will be used to help students in their understanding of how a CAD system works and what are their latest developments. The instructor will be available on a weekly basis for consultation. It should be understood that on the average, the student will be required to solve even complicated procedures for themselves. The student must have had a B or better in Advance Drafting
AND have the teachers recommendation. This course is only offered subject to the availability
of the computers.
