The Mathematics Department believes that its responsibility to the students of BFA includes and goes beyond the teaching of mathematical content.  We attempt to instill the self-confidence, discipline, and enthusiasm that will enable each student to attain the highest level of accomplishment possible.  We seek to provide each student with a background in mathematics relevant to the choices she or he will make after graduation.
The Mathematics Department has attempted to develop and to maintain a curriculum that meets the needs of all our students.  We offer courses at many different levels of abstraction and in several different areas, so that each student may find courses appropriate to his or her interests and level of mathematical development. To these ends we make every effort to investigate and evaluate new approaches to the teaching of mathematics and to incorporate those that we believe will be beneficial to our students.
